Nevada is not too far from where we live. Yet somehow I don't know many people who have spent a lot of time there (beyond Las Vegas, of course). So let me be the one to tell you ... Nevada is super underrated. And Vegas is just the beginning.

There is so much wide open land and space there. The vast majority of the state is BLM land where you can camp off-grid just about wherever you'd like. If you like rocks, sagebrush, and sunshine, and you don't want to run into too many people, the land in Nevada is a great place to spend some time, especially in January!

There is a quirky, historic feeling throughout the small towns and roadside attractions we saw. One memorable detail ... if you would like to pump gas, throw a few coins into a slot machine, buy whiskey, and pick up some ammo all in the same place, you can do it all in Nevada, almost anywhere you go. We also loved the history and ghost towns. Everyone was friendly. The sky was FULL of twinkly stars. There is tons of interesting geology. The colors are faded sage greens, tan hillsides, and light blue skies. Art turns up in the most unusual places. It feels wild here. We loved it and we are planning to head back to check out Great Basin National Park on our way back north for the summer.

Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
