Did you ever make drip sandcastles as a child? I remember adding sand to a bucket of water and then letting it flow through my fingers to form varied, textured spires. Being at Cathedral Gorge took me back to those days.

It was like being in a larger-than-life maze of sandcastles as far as the eye could see. I was amazed at how solid they felt to the touch compared to how fragile they must be to wind and water erosion to create such incredible ripples and grooves in the canyon walls.

In the middle of winter, almost no one was around, which only accentuated the dramatic landscape and allowed us to hear the cawing of each bird that flew overhead.
