Where are we going?
Confession: I'm recovering from moderate to severe overplanning tendencies! But for this particular adventure, we want to stay flexible, grab opportunities as they come along, and delight in possibilities. So, the travel plan is not to plan.
I do have a rough outline of which state we might be in each month. Beyond that, I am only thinking in details about a month in advance. And since we are heading out in the dead of northwest winter, the best idea we have is to start by heading south to find some sun! Our departure in January will kick off our Southwest explorations!
Our first month will look a little something like this ...
Head south through Ashland and Reno
Take the Free Range Art Highway south through ghost towns and open-air museums
Visit other-worldly landscapes in Death Valley
Pop over to Zion National Park with a few nights in Cathedral Gorge along the way
Visit Gold Butte National Monument and Valley of Fire
Visit the Hoover Dam and explore Red Rocks
Explore and stargaze at Joshua Tree National Park
Relax in Palm Springs

Up next? Here's the month-by-month outline. February Arizona March New Mexico April Colorado May Utah
June
California July Oregon
August Washington September Idaho/Wyoming October Michigan (there will be lots of driving and short stops on the way there!)
November
Virginia/North Carolina/Tennessee
December
FLORIDA!!!
January
Head back along the southern states with some stops in Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas
Why does it already feel like we won't have enough time and we haven't even started yet?!
While I'm sure this plan will change as we go, starting with something feels good to my detail-driven heart. I can't wait to see how it evolves from here.
