Shasta Trinity National Forest, California

The drive to get here is stunning. Miles of forest with snow on the ground, sun in the sky, and towering ponderosa pines as far as the eye can see.

You could tell that Burney Falls is a place that is frequently visited ... but not in January. We were one of three cars in the parking lot and had the whole walk to ourselves.

It was so cold, the falls had icicles on their sides and we slid/skated down the slick frozen path holding on to the railing as we went.

It was a lovely break from a very long drive from Ashland all the way to Washoe Lake in Nevada.

Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
